2021 RULES
DRIVER SPECIFICATION
- Driver must be in the Instructor or Advanced group.
STEP 4: Coaching Evaluation (by student)
STEP 4: One of our known/trusted drivers will be driving their own car on track while you ride along with them. Again, YOU will be instructing THEM. This driver may have special instructions from the Chief Instructor to do during your session with them. Instruct them as best you can using the techniques and criteria previously noted during Step 3. Remember, SAFETY FIRST!
STEP 3: Coaching Evaluation (by Chief/Senior Instructor)
STEP 3: One of our Chief Instructors and/or Senior Level Instructors will be driving their own car on track while you ride along with them. This time, YOU will be instructing THEM. We know you may not know all of the specifics yet, but do your best. We are looking for the competencies listed in Instructor Skill Group A (communication, decisiveness, safety, stress resilience, etc.). The driver may do some things incorrectly on purpose to test you, so be prepared!
Excerpts from our Instructor Manual which should help you during step 3 are below.
STEP 2: Driving Evaluation (by Chief/Senior Instructor)
STEP 2: You will be driving your own car on track while one of our Chief Instructors and/or Senior Level Instructors rides along with you to evaluate your driving. This may happen more than once with different people riding along.
STEP 1: Mock "meet your student" and in-car setup
TO SCHEDULE STEP 1:
Email events@autointerests.com ahead of time to schedule this at an event you will be attending. We prefer and highly recommend scheduling this in advance so we can guarantee a time slot for this to happen. If not pre-scheduled, please visit Hospitality to inquire if possible same day.
Safety
You focus on safety before everything else. A confident student is great, but an unchecked overconfident student is dangerous to themselves and anyone around them. You have an all-encompassing situational awareness for the driver, the car, and every other car on the track.
Predicting
You can feel and verbally articulate the handling characteristics of your student's car. You are aware of the limits of your student and their car. You must be able to stay ahead of the student, can see a problem/mistake coming before the student creates one, and say something before it can happen. You have to anticipate what cars in front of you are doing, as your student may not be able to.
Communication
HOW: Clear and concise communication - both verbally and with hand signals. Use of basic and consistent terminology (ie. don't flip flop between throttle & gas).
Adaptability
You have the capacity to keep an open mind and be flexible with different and creative approaches. You can recognize different learning styles of your students and can adjust your approach accordingly. You are able to explain the same thing in many different ways. You can process a student's current skill level fairly quickly, and then teach from that point.
